TV Land Announces Heathers Anthology Series

TV Land
, home to such original shows as Hot In Cleveland, has ordered a TV pilot for a show based on the 1989 black comedy Heathers. The original film found Veronica (played by Winona Ryder) and her rebellious boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater) find themselves as outcasts in a high school ruled by three girls named Heather.

In this new TV version, the three heathers that rule are Heather Duke – a male named Heath who identifies as gender queer; Heather McNamara – a black lesbian; and Heather Chandler who “has a body like Martha Dumptruck”.

Additionally, the TV series will be an anthology, along the lines of American Horror Story and Fargo, meaning each season will bring a fresh new cast to live in the seedy world of high school cliques.

Additional information will be released as the pilot episode is filmed.
