New Standalone Batman Film Is Coming
Current Batman Ben Affleck has confirmed that a new standalone Batman film is coming. First up, Batman will be seen in the upcoming Batman V Superman – Dawn of Justice hitting theaters in just a few weeks. Director Zack Snyder has made it clear that this is a different universe then the one Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy takes place in. He told Filmink, “In the Batman universe that Chris Nolan created, Superman would have a hard time existing. That that’s why we did a reboot on the universe, so we could allow these characters to exist together. We needed to do that to have Batman exist in this world.”
Snyder is making it clear that Affleck marks a hole new Batman. Affleck told EW, “There’s definitely willingness and a will and a desire to make a [standalone] Batman movie on the part of Warner Brothers. It’s in development, and right now I’m really focused on finishing Live By Night. That’s where my focus is, and I tend to be a one movie at a time guy. When I’m finished with this movie, I’ll then focus on my next movie and figure out what that will be.”
While Affleck may be playing coy, it was well known that Warner scooped him up almost immediately after his Oscar win for Argo and they were extremely interested in his directing abilities. We know how this story goes……we just can’t wait for them to announce it! While there will never be a way to top The Dark Knight Trilogy but we’re curious to see what a different take on the character will be.
