The new Friday The 13th movie will feature Jason and Pamela Vorhees Together; Will take place in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Friday the 13th is getting the reboot treatment…sort of. The new Friday the 13th movie will take Jason Vorhees back to his roots. Taking place in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the film will find the iconic slasher with his mother Pamela, who was the original killer in Friday the 13th. That’s right, Pamela and Jason Vorhees will be killing teenagers side by side!

While producer Brad Fuller originally said that Aaron Guzikowski’s script would be an origin story, but now he’s clarifying his comments. He tells iHorror:

Origin isn’t really the right word for this movie. The word “Origin” got out and everyone’s calling it an origin film now, but that isn’t exactly the direction we’re taking. It’s more of an alternate world that we’re creating for Jason – an alternate space, alternate reality – in this film.

Yes, Pamela and Jason are together in this film, but this is the same Jason we all know and love. He’s Jason; he kills – he kills teenagers. We went down the origin route with the second Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and I think when you go to deep into a character’s origin, the character stops being scary at some point. I’m not worried about demystifying Jason by revealing parts of his back story, which most of the fans are familiar with.

The story takes place between the late 1970s and the early 1980s. There is a summer camp and there are camp counselors.

This is great news for long time horror fans and especially so for fans of the Friday the 13th franchise. While the previously rebooted Friday the 13th (2009) was rather successful grossing $92 million on a $19 million budget, a sequel stalled. The 2017 version of Friday the 13th will be a, sort of, reimagining of the entire mythology.
