Madonna to perform Prince tribute at Billboard Music Awards as the Queen will honor the Prince.

The Queen of Pop – Madonna – will pay tribute to Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, Billboard is reporting. The team behind the Billboard Music Awards announced the news today but remained tight lipped about any details.

Madonna and Prince have a long history with the two doing a rare duet on “Love Song” from 1989’s Like A Prayer album. (Buy the classic Like A Prayer album now!) The two wrote, produced and performed the song together at Prince’s Paisley Park studio. Love Song quickly became a fan favorite but was never released as a single. Additionally, Prince performed guitar on the title track of Like A Prayer, as well as Keep It Together and Act of Contrition.

2011 found the legendary artist attending a Prince concert in Manhattan. Prince joked to the sold out crowd, “I know I’m expensive” before giving a shout out to Madonna – a friendly jab at her high ticket prices. Then in October  2015, after playing Minnesota on her sold out Rebel Heart Tour, Madonna, her band and dancers went to Prince’s Paisley Park for a personal concert by Prince himself.

There are very few artist in the league of Madonna and Prince. In fact, after Prince’s untimely passing, Madonna may just be the only one left. So it is extremely fitting that she has been chosen to perform a tribute for the legendary artist. It is truly one legend to another.

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will air live from Las Vegas on May 22, 2016.
