Godzilla absolutely decimated the competition this weekend at the box office. Taking in $93.2 million in it’s first weekend, Godzilla is the 2nd biggest opening of the year, following Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s $95 million. This also destroys Godzilla (1998)’s $55.7 million. That Matthew Broderick starring flick went on to make $136.3 million in it’s U.S. theatrical run. Godzilla will more than likely double that number.

Neighbors, last week’s #1 film held strong with $25.9 million in it’s second weekend for a two week haul of over $91 million on a budget of $18 million. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 continues an amazingly spectacular fizzle as it only took in $16.8 million in it’s third weekend. That gives the film a total of $172.1 million in three weeks. At week three, The Amazing Spider-Man had totaled $235 million back in 2012. Spider-Man 2 had made $313 million in it’s third week, while Spider-Man 3 had made $289 million, and Spider-Man had made $297 million. This means that not only is it the lowest grossing Spider-Man entry so far, but it’s over $110 million off from the next lowest grossing entry at week three. Once again, we say it is a bad move on Sony to try and turn Spider-Man into a universe of films.
