Box Office Weekend Estimates Show Huge Debut For “Island”

Shutter Island blew away expectations to come away #1 in it’s first weekend in theaters with $40.2 million. This marks the best opening weekend for director Martin Scorsese as well as the best for Leonardo DiCaprio. Their last outing together, The Departed, racked up $27 million it it’s first weekend. Valentine’s Day took a hard 70% drop over last weekend bringing in $17.2 million in it’s 2nd weekend.
