Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice drops almost 70% from it’s first weekend at box office.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice takes a huge box office hit in it’s second weekend in theaters. The latest installment in the DC Extended Universe took in $52.4 million from Friday through Sunday representing a 68% drop from it’s debut last week. To put this in perspective, it is the fifth largest drop for a movie that opened with over $100 million. The Zack Snyder helmed movie is on par with last year’s Fantastic Four (2015) which dropped 68.2% in it’s second weekend. I think we all know Batman V Superman doesn’t want to be compared to Fox’s abysmal Fantastic Four reboot.
Worldwide, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hit $680 million, which is definitely nothing to sneeze at, but it should be doing better here at home. Before opening, industry analysts and Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment thought the movie was nearly a lock to cross the $1 billion worldwide mark. Those dreams have been dashed. Most likely, the first cinematic meeting of the two comic book titans will end up in the low $900 million range.
