|Apple brings CarPlay to your car|
With the announcement of iOS7 last year, Apple had announced iOS in the Car. Today, it was announced that it is finally here. CarPlay, as it is now called, brings your iPhone right into your car system. CarPlay allows users of iPhones with Lightning connectors (iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S) to plug their phone into their car and bring up their phone on their in-dash video screen. Maps, Messages (texts), Music, Podcasts and all of your other important stuff will show up on your screen. Siri is used to make it all hands free.
It even uses the personal assistant function of Siri (as your iPhone does now if you allow it) to scan your calendar, emails and texts to predict where you are going to next, then displays the directions and gives you the traffic for the route and the weather at your destination. Gotta love those Apple touches!
To clarify, this does not replace your original system, but sends a version of your phones screen to it and lays it on top of your existing in dash system. So you don’t have to worry about being Apple-only for the rest of your cars life (although why would you ever switch?)
Launch Apps include the apps we mentioned earlier, as well as Spotify, Beats Audio, I Heart Radio and Stitcher. More will be announced in time. Currently, CarPlay will show up in Ferrari, Mercedes and Volvo immediately with BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mistubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota throughout this year.
