The Amazing Spider-Man 2 took in nearly $92 million this weekend – it’s first in US theaters. While that gave it one of the best openings of the year (Captain America: The Winter Soldier took in $95 million last month), it is on track to take in less than it’s predecessor. The Amazing Spider-Man debuted in 2012 to $62 million and went on to make $262 million in the US. However, The Amazing Spider-Man debuted on a Tuesday and ended up with $140 million in it’s first 6 days in theaters. The sequel won’t be anywhere near $140 million in it’s first week.

It seems movie-goers may be tiring of Spider-man for now. Out of the last 4 movies, each Spider-Man film will have made less than the one before it. With Sony’s recent announcement that they’ll be increasing the output of Spider-Man movies and trying to make a Marvel-like universe, this doesn’t bode well.
