In it’s 1st weekend, the not quite a sequel, not quite a prequel, 300: Rise of an Empire (see our 300: Rise of an Empire review) dominated the weekend box office, taking in $45 million. Worldwide it grossed an additional  $87 million bringing its first week worldwide take to an astounding $132.8 million. Last week’s #1 Non-Stop dropped to #3 while Mr. Peabody & Sherman opened with a strong $32.5 million in it’s first weekend. Son of God plummeted from last week’s #2 to this week’s #5 with a 60.9% drop. What’s even sadder about this huge drop is that it actually played in MORE theaters then it did last week. It’s total is now at $41 million in two weeks. Expect it to fizzle out in the $55 million range.
